Whiplash Injury
Whiplash is an injury to the neck caused by the neck bending forcibly forward and then backward, or vice versa. The injury usually involves the muscles, discs, nerves, and tendons in the neck. Most whiplash injuries are the result of a motor vehicle collision that includes sudden acceleration or deceleration; often when a person is involved in a rear-end automobile collision, or as a result of a contact sport injury. Symptoms characteristic of whiplash are neck pain, neck stiffness, shoulder and upper back pain and occasional arm and/or hand numbness. The diagnosis of whiplash can be made by physical examination by a physician and confirmed with x-rays and an MRI
