Little League Elbow

Little League elbow is a condition that effects the skeletally immature elbow of a young athlete (10 to 15 years old). The actual process is due to an overload of the elbow joint caused by excessive throwing usually in combination with underdeveloped technique. The effect can be damage to the growth plate and/or surface of the joint. Often the condition can be linked to some sort of a sudden change in the intensity or duration of activity. Symptoms are characterized by pain, swelling and stiffness after throwing. Occasionally the athlete was experience catching or locking. The elbow may feel warm and can be tender to touch. The diagnosis of Little League Elbow can be made by physical examination by a physician and reliably confirmed with an XR and/or MRI.
